Over the Shoulder Baby Holder Wearing Positions

1 month old
Fabric: Khaki
Newborn Carry
To protect a newborns spine, carry your baby in the reclining position. Even if the baby is sitting upright, she is not hanging vertically with all the pressure on her growing spine. The sling perfectly supports the natural curvature of the spine and keeps the legs together.

A common worry for new parents is that the baby looks "scrunched" or "squooshed." Remember, they were curled up in a ball in the womb, so this position is very comforting and familiar to them. As long as she is not crying or fussing the in the sling, then the baby is comfortable.

5 days old
fabric: Khaki
In THE BABY BOOK by Dr. William Sears & Martha Sears, RN, Dr. Sears devotes a whole chapter to "Baby Wearing." Dr. Sears explains that for newborns, the padded sling should be worn "backwards." Instead of having the shoulder pillow top on top of the wearers shoulder, it should be used to support the baby's head. That is how the mother is wearing her sling here.

"Kangaroo" or Front Carry
Perfect for babies with good head control. 4 Months - 6 Months (or however long it's comfortable for you.)
5 months old
Fabric: Stars and Moon

Hip Carry
When the Front Carry position is no longer comfortable (6 Months and Older) you can switch to the hip. Some people prefer the padding. A great carry for heavier babies or toddlers.
