Newborn Carry
Newborns need to be carried in a reclining position until they have achieve head control. This protects their spine and hips from undue stress. The sling supports the head, follows the natural contour of the spine and keeps legs together.
In this photo, the baby has been placed with her head on the same side of the Maya Wrap Baby Sling as the rings. It is also possible to wear your baby with the head on the other side of the Baby Sling.
A common worry for new parents is that the baby looks "scrunched" or "squooshed." Remember, they were curled up in a ball in the womb, so this position is very comforting and familiar to them. As long as she is not crying or fussing the in the sling, then the baby is comfortable.
Another tip: Carry your baby in the sling as you would normally hold her in your arms. Try holding her in your arms, with the sling very loose and then tighten it to fit the shape of her body.
