Trouble-shooting Tips for the Maya Wrap Sling The Maya Wrap sling takes seconds to put on and take off. Sometimes, beginner sling users put it on so fast that they wear it incorrectly. Here are some tips and photos that will help.
PROBLEM 1: Sling always feels too loose; unable to tighten sling. Often, when novice sling users pick up their baby and put him in the sling, they pull down on the tail and the rings ends up "traveling" down towards their stomach. The problem is that the fabric will sloooooowly become loose. The baby is not in danger. It happens so slowly, you will notice that it's loose. The wearer keeps tightening and tightening (pulling down on the tail over and over again) and getting more and more frustrated because it isn't staying tight.
SOLUTION: To prevent this, simply keep the rings near the shoulder. Then fan the fabric completely over the shoulder (just pull some fabric down, towards your arm.) That way, the rings cannot travel downwards as your shoulder serves as an achor.
Same is true for the opposite shoulder.
Now, with the fabric fanned over the shoulder, the rings stay "locked" in place as the fabric over the shoulder anchors the sling in position. Meanwhile, with your opposite hand, you grab the back of the fabric (or the fabric under the babies rear end) and hold it tightly. Make sure the fabric on your back is tight and even (There should be no twists in the fabric on your back, otherwise, that will cause pain.) PROBLEM 2: Twisted fabric in rings This makes your sling very difficult (OK, impossible) to adjust. It's frustrating! Spread the fabric evenly inside the rings.
SOLUTION: Simple. You need to spread the fabric evenly inside the rings.
Now, the fabric is correctly threaded through the rings and is easy to adjust. Just pull on any part of the fabric that needs adjusting to keep your child snug against your body.
With proper adjustment, you can comfortably carry chubby babies or heavier toddlers. |
